The ICQ held its Annual Dinner and Awards Night on 28th September 2013.

The dinner was co-sponsored by Crescent Wealth (www.crescentwealth.com.au). 

This event aimed at recognizing the efforts of those who have worked over the years as volunteers to serve the Muslim community in Queensland.

Hon. Glen Elmes, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs and Minister Assisting the Premier, presented awards to the following:

CONCEPT OF HALAL

Halal is a Quranic word meaning lawful or permitted. In reference to food, it is the dietary standard, as prescribed in the Quran the Muslim scripture. General Quranic guidance dictates that all foods are Halal except those that are specifically mentioned as Haram (unlawful or Prohibited).

GUIDELINES FOR HALAL CERTIFICATION

The Islamic Council of Queensland (ICQ) implements the Halal Certification Program with a view to ensuring that all food outlets in Queensland certified as “halal” abide by the requirements of Shariah law.
